Chapter 8 - Water Resources

In this chapter, we will be looking at the following:
1) Understand the reasons for water constraints in the world
2) Understand and evaluate the various responses to the rising demand of water
3) Case Study of Singapore's Water Supply and Responses to rising demand of water.

Many people in the world suffer from a lack of water in the country.
The reasons for the water constraint are broadly due to the limited supply and the rising demand of water.
Pupils in my classes would have completed their mindmap on the reasons for water constraints and the responses to the rising demand of water.

You may want to watch the following videos to understand the water crisis in the world.

The following are some addition online information that you may find it useful to help you understand the water issues better.

Are you aware of the ABC Waters Programme in Singapore?
There are 15 reservoirs in Singapore. Do you know which one of them is the oldest?

The following link is a good summary of Water Management Issues in Singapore.
You may also wish to visit my other blog on the Marina Barrage. It is Singapore's 15th Reservoir and its impact on marine life.

So what are your thoughts?
How can we try to conserve water in our own little ways as we are the luck ones who have no worries about getting clean water supply in Singapore?

Bottled Water.
Many of us are guilty of wasting bottled water, even though it may not be cheap. Want to take the pledge and join THINK OUT OF THE BOTTLE?

Land Supply

To my dear Sec 2s,
Life is so unpredictable.
I thought I could complete the syllabus faster this term but it turned out to be otherwise.
First it was the H1N1 and in week 2, I am down with flu.
I was totally in the dreamworld for the past 3 days.
So instead of going through your holiday assignment in class, I have given you plenty of exercises to be completed during my absence.
I have uploaded the answers to the questions asked in the Activity Book pp69-73.

Hopefully I will recover fast and be strong enough to catch up on the curriculum time lost.
Have a rested weekend.
